Hofseth International AS offers an assortment of Norwegian Atlantic Salmon, Steelhead trout and Pacific Hake (whiting) across Norway and around the world with an extablished international sales and distribution network. Supplying high quality fish around the world with an ethical approach toward fish husbandry.
Hofseth AS International contacted CRS to rectify the issues of off-site blast freezing and quality control as the business grew.
Challenges
CRS were tasked with providing high powered blast freezing equipment to the Hofseth AS site in Norway. These were to be suitable for operation in all weathers whilst ensuring Hofseth AS staff were able to operate the equipment and quality control could be maintained internally, rather than reliance on expensive and inconvenient external blast freezing solutions.
Solutions
The two key issues to tackle in the supply of blast freezers to Hofseth AS, delivery of 2 blast freezers to Norway and the power being sufficient to ensure quality of produce was not compromised. In order to overcome these challenges, CRS offered to Hofseth AS two of our ISO Blast Freezers. These are fitted with 60kW forced airflow blast freezer engines and have the capacity to blast freeze 10,000kg of fresh fish to frozen in just 24 hours.
With their standard ISO container construction, the option to deliver these to Norway was simplified compared to many other non-ISO blast freezing solutions.

"Until 2012 we had to travel long distances to freeze our salmon off-site. As our business grew, this was not an efficient way to freeze the fish and we needed more production capacity so we decided to purchase our own on-site blast freezers.
When we made this decision, speed, efficiency and value for money was very important to us and CRS offered the equipment we needed so we called Paul Tyrrell, MD of CRS Cold Storage in Ireland and he was very helpful from the beginning. He provided us with all of the information we needed and we made the decision to purchase two 60kw outdoor Blast Freezers.
We are now able to carry out the blast freezing on site which has saved us a huge amount of time and money and means that we are in control of our products, ensuring the quality is 100%.
The blast freezers were dispatched, delivered and installed on time and we are delighted with the equipment supplied as the freezers are very hard wearing and can withstand all weather.
We were so impressed with the equipment and with the service CRS offered that we subsequently ordered a further two blast freezers.
